Information About Local Ordinances

Local ordinances help to maintain the integrity and safety of our community. As a public service, we have listed here a few of the ordinances which have often been a source of complaints from residents and visitors.

Curfew Ordinance A juvenile 15 and under must be in by 10:00 PM. A juvenile age 16 or 17 must be in by 12:00 AM (midnight). This ordinance is in effect year round, including summer months. There are a few exceptions including:

  • A juvenile accompanying a parent
  • A juvenile returning from work
  • In the event of a family emergency

DAYTIME CURFEW

It is unlawful for any minor at least six years of age to be away from the dwelling house or usual place of abode during the hours the minor is required to be in attendance in a public or private school or during the hours the minor is required to be in attendance in any alternative placement program approved by the Board of Education, regardless of whether the minor has been expelled or suspended or is otherwise absent from school.

Loud Stereos in Vehicles The driver of a motor vehicle cannot cause or permit any noise to emanate from the vehicle in such a manner and to be of such intensity and duration to create unreasonable noise. It is prima facie evidence if the noise is plainly audible at a distance of 50 feet.
Tinted Windows For the safety of officers and motorists alike, this ordinance was passed. A driver/owner cannot have in excess of 50% window tint on vehicle windows.
Trash Cans Trash receptacles can be placed at the curb after 5:00 PM on the day before trash pickup. The receptacles must be removed by 6:00 PM on the day of pickup.
Grass Clipping in Streets Due to recent episodes of flooding, homeowners or residents are required, after cutting their grass, to remove grass clippings from the street. This ensures that gutters will remain unclogged.
Parking in Yards and Across Sidewalks No vehicle can be parked in the front yard of a residence, nor can the vehicle be parked across the sidewalk.
Overtime Parking There is a 72-hour time limit on vehicles parked on the street. After 72 hours, vehicles must be removed.
